Viva Las Vegas! There’s nothing like a trip
to Las Vegas to stir the senses and inspire new ideas.
McKenzie Event Management recently attended “The
Special Event”, an industry-only conference hosted
by the International Special Event Society (ISES). As
you can imagine, we were invited to participate in an
array of amazing parties, seminars, more parties, a
mind-boggling tradeshow, and my personal favorite this
year…The Wedding Luncheon at Bellagio. It’s
as much fun as it sounds!
The big news of the season is COLOR. Spirits are lifting,
and the use of bold color themes are in. Two color trends
stand out. Chocolate brown is seen everywhere from rich
fabrics to influences in floral design. Lilac and Chocolate
is the hottest combination of the season; followed by
chocolate paired with light pink, pale blue, or mint
green. Even in food presentation, we see the use of
Chocolate Fountains and carved chocolate sculptures.
 Pinks
are found in every shade from the palest of blush to
the hottest, tropical brights. One of our favorites
is the pink bengaline table linen and chair covers (see
photo right), trimmed with opal sequins and white
pearls. Set the table with silver and crystal…it’s
simply stunning.
The next new trend to hit events is SCALE.
Everything was larger than life. Awe-inspiring arrangements,
grand tents, floor to ceiling fabric treatments, décor
elements exaggerated in size, plus full scale choreography
and production. Large events are going over the top
and becoming more technologically advanced; while traditionally
smaller events are growing up.
And the final key trend we identified was CUSTOMIZATION.
Almost every element is being custom designed and personalized
to meet each client’s particular needs. Expectations
are higher than ever. Style reigns supreme. Creativity
is critical. Globalization is influencing the design
and etiquette of corporate events as well as social
events. Weddings and events are becoming more complex;
with interfaith or intercultural ceremonies, couples
marrying later in life, destination events and receptions,
or extended celebrations over a series of days. With
so many different participants and issues to consider,
events are being personalized to honor family heritage,
new traditions, and fantasy themes more than ever before.
Customization may be a new trend, but at McKenzie Event Management we are proud that custom design has been, and
continues to be, the foundation of ALL our signature
